The Harooniyeh Mausoleum is known as the only remaining monument in the ancient city of Tus. In recent years, with the support of the Khorasan Cultural and National Heritage Organization, a protective fence has been erected around the site, and a green space has been developed in its surroundings. This monument was officially registered as a historical site in Iran on January 5, 1932, under registration number 173. Later, in 2003, it was also listed as the presumed tomb of Imam Al-Ghazali under registration number 8944.
There are numerous legends regarding the original use of the Harooniyeh structure. One tale suggests that Harun al-Rashid used the site as a prison for criminals. Others claim it was a fire temple during the pre-Islamic era, while some believe it was a site of torture for Imam Musa al-Kadhim and his followers. Additionally, old texts refer to the building as a "Naqqareh-Khaneh" (drum house) and "Mamooniyeh."
